Imagine sitting at your bench late on a Friday afternoon and reaching over to turn on a video camera.  You’re sitting there in your shop apron with your fingers still dirty from polishing as you introduce yourself and explain that you just finished a new piece of jewelry and are so excited that you just had to share your excitement.  As the video cuts away to a close-up of the jewelry being held in your fingers you begin to explain all the details of your new creation.  A video of making the piece of jewelry is shown as you explain the meticulous steps you took in transforming metal and stone into this new beautiful masterpiece that will soon become a treasured heirloom of one of your clients.

After just a few minutes of filming, you plug your camera into your computer and perform a few simple edits and you send it off around your community for all to see.  Instantly your clients begin watching how you created this wonderful work of art.  Some will watch the video on their cell phone, others on their iPod or Blackberry.  Others will watch it on their Internet home page as if it is a late breaking news story on CNN, and still others will watch it play in an e-mail in their Inbox, or directly from your website.

Sounds too far fetched?  Too Dick Tracy?

Remember as a kid watching the Dick Tracy cartoons and seeing his watch with a television screen thinking that that day would never come?  Guess what?  That day is here and now.  The kind of video ad I describe above is already taking place, and is some of the easiest and cheapest advertising you have ever done.

When it comes to Internet technology most jewelers are as confused and scared as Dorothy was wondering down the yellow brick road chanting the now familiar chorus “Lion and Tigers and Bears, Oh My!  LION AND TIGERS AND BEARS, OH MY!”

However, Dorothy found out that what she had at first feared actually was very helpful in making her journey to the Emerald City a success.

So let’s break down the steps necessary to accomplish the above video scenario and conquer all of our Internet technology confusion and fears.  If you’re willing to try it, you probably will find it is not as hard as you thought, and like Dorothy, come to the realization that what you fear can actually help you in the success of your career and/or business.
